DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

Chaipat Saheed Pradyot Bhattacharya Mahavidyalaya was established in 26th Julay, 2007 with an aim to empower the rural student by increasing their scope of education. The Department of English, started its journey along with the college towards a prosperous future with a handful of students under the affiliation of Vidyasagar University, though only general course was offered in English at that time. The department ran full-fledged 3-yr Degree Course in English (Hons. & General) from the session 2008-2009 onwards. The department started following CBCS course structure and End-Semester evaluation pattern from the session 2018-2019 as per UGC guidelines. The Department also follows the CCFUP course structure and End-Semester evaluation pattern from the session 2023-2024. The department is always looking far ahead as time and again the syllabi are being restructured with global perspectives.

The aim of the department is to develop deep and wide knowledge in the subject and to make students accountable to society by developing moral and human values in them. Apart from the lecture method the department also encourages the learning of students through group discussions among the students in presence of the teachers, question answer session by students and arranging lecture series by dignified personalities belongs to different colleges and universities. The ‘Hippocrine’, The Departmental Wall Magazine is published time to time by the students under the guidance of the teacher. The teachers keep eye on each student's weakness and strength in respect of preparation of university examination. The students also keep constant touch with the department for personal and academic counselling. To expose the students to latest developments in educational and social sectors, the department organizes seminars, discussions, debate and special lectures on contemporary issues. Students are encouraged to take up the responsibility for organizing academic, society outreach programs and extracurricular events in order to enhance their administrative and creative skills.
